Attention: Unidirectional Flushing November 18 through November 20th

Cedar River Water and Sewer District staff will be conducting a unidirectional flushing project in the Hobart area, East of Hwy 169 and South of Se 216th St, to include the neighborhoods of Taylor Creek Meadows, Cornerstone, Maplewood Estates, and surrounding areas.

Unidirectional flushing is the method of directing large volumes of water to a single point of exit from the water system with the objective of reaching a scouring velocity of flow through the pipe that will remove sedimentation and products of corrosion that can lead to turbid and discolored water. The District’s goal is to remove the sediment and minerals from the water mains in this area, which has had an increase in water quality complaints, to improve the water quality and limit future impact to our customers.

Residents in the area should see our strategically placed notification signs starting November 14th, with work to begin November 18th through November 20th. During this time customers may notice periodic drops in water pressure as well as potentially discolored water. While this discolored water is safe for consumption, we recommend minimizing usage during the hours of 8am to 3pm to help avoid pulling the discolored water into the customers plumbing. If you experience discolored water at your plumbing fixtures in your home, we recommend flushing your water lines until it clears. This is best done by flushing the cold tap first, followed by the hot tap. The discoloration should clear within 5 minutes. If the discolored water persists, please reach out to the District so we can assist in resolving the issue.
